Learn More about Polignano a Mare

Polignano a Mare is a municipality of the metropolitan city of Bari, in Puglia, southern Italy. Idyllic scenery, turquoise, and translucent waters, steep cliffs and mysterious caves, this is what characterizes this destination. Originally Greek, and today a small but very busy town, you must visit Polignano a Mare which offers some beautiful surprises. Built on the edges of the limestone cliffs so characteristic of Puglia, Polignano a Mare is famous for the beauty of its waters and its urban landscape. Its wild coastline blends perfectly with the numerous houses that border it, giving a breathtaking, almost vertiginous effect.

When you arrive, head to the main square, Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II. The Chiesa Matrice Dell'Assunta church is located in the square, and inside are sculptures from the 16th and 17th centuries and an important 15th-century polyptych of the Virgin and Child.

The square is a charming place to sit and watch the world go by. If you want to indulge, you'll also want to head along the cliffs, where there is an incredible restaurant built into the cliff caves and overlooking the sea.

The caves are a must in Polignano a Mare, dug naturally by the elements of nature, there are nearly 80 of them! However, not all of them are exploitable. Among the most famous caves, discover the famous Grotta Palazzese, the Grotta delle Monache, the Grotta Scampagnata or the Grotta Castellana. Boat trips are organized so that you can get up close and personal with the caves, and sometimes you can even learn more about them.

There are very few museums in Polignano a Mare. However, the Pino Pascali Palace, on the edge of the cliff, houses the Museum of Contemporary Art.

Obviously, it is a destination where it is good to enjoy the beach, the beach of Lama Monachile or Cala Porte is the most popular. You can access it through a small artificial passage with rough stone walls, it allows, from the beach of Lama Monachile, to access a mysterious place.

Polignano a Mare is a destination that offers many perspectives thanks to its impressive natural landscape, come and discover its caves and beaches during your stay.
